Novel design of MOFs-based hierarchical nanoarchitecture: Towards reducing fire hazards of epoxy resin

The inherent inflammability of epoxy resin (EP) has seriously limited its further application. structural design flame retardants huge potential for boosting the fire safety properties polymer materials. Herein, a novel MOFs-based hierarchical nanoarchitecture ([email protected]@SiO2) was constructed, composed ZIF-8 nanoparticles, as well in-situ grown phytic acid (PA) and silica. results indicated that not only [email protected]@SiO2 uniformly dispersed in EP matrix, but it also formed good interface bond, which beneficial to thermal composites. incorporation markedly decreased maximum weight loss rate (MLRmax) increased char residues. Compared with neat EP, limiting oxygen index (LOI) value EP/5% from 23.4% 28.8%. Furthermore, peak heat release (PHRR), growth (FGI), smoke production (PSPR), CO (PCOPR) factor (SF) were by 38.3%, 41.6%, 45.5%, 42.9% 69.3%, respectively. TG-FTIR provided strong evidence suppressed emissions CO, aromatic, hydrocarbons carbonyl, corroborating impeded hindered toxicity, primarily ascribed barrier effect, free-radical scavenging dilution effect multi-integrated P/N/Si-containing nanoarchitecture.
